Israeli forces at the Erez crossing prevented 5-month-old infant from crossing into Israel with his mother and five-year-old sister, who was given permission to receive medical treatment in Israel. The three arrived at Erez so five-year-old Maria could seek medical help in Israel after Gazan doctors were unable to diagnose what is behind the child’s chronic fevers. Maria’s mother took the five-year-old and her five-month old baby Tamim to Erez so she could continue to care for the child as his sister receives treatment.

Israeli forces at the crossing refused to allow the infant into Israel, and the mother and children were forced to turn back and may be unable to enter Israel for treatment at another time. Maria’s mother, Umm Tamim, said the infant was unable to stay with family while she is away with Maria, because they do not know how long treatment will take.
