The news agency said that a meeting happened in Washington in the past days between PA representatives and an Israeli delegation on the position regarding the report. The sources said that the PA representatives strongly refused at the beginning to withdraw the support to the report and clung to their position until Colonel Ely Abraham came and showed them from his laptop a videotape of a dialogue that took place between the PA President Abbas and Israeli Defense Minister Barak in the presence of former Foreign Minister Livni. The source added that Abbas was shown in the tape trying to convince Barak on the need to continue the war on Gaza while Barak looked reluctant in front of Abbas’ enthusiasm and Livni’s support to the continuation of the war. The sources said that Abraham presented also a tape recording of a phone call between the director of Israeli Joint Staff Office Dov Weisglass and the PNA Presidential Secretary Tayyeb Abdul Rahim who said in the phone call that the conditions are ready for the entry of the Israeli army into Jabalia and Shate’ camps, stressing that the call of these two camps will end Hamas rule in Gaza and will push it to raise the white flag. According to the recording, Weisglass told Tayyeb Abdul Rahim that this will lead to the death of thousands of civilians and Tayyeb Abdul Rahim responded: they all voted for Hamas and they chose their destiny not us. The sources said that the Israeli delegation threatened the PA representatives to present this material in front of the UN and the mass media, and this threat pushed the PA to agree to the Israeli request and did give a written promise not to make any statement to any country to adopt Goldstone Report. Israeli Maariv newspaper published the report by Shehab News Agency today and added quoting a political source saying that the PA decision came after the threat by Netanyahu to Abbas that not withdrawing the report will seriously harm the political process. The newspaper said that the politicians in Israel prefer to remain silent on this issue, because they do not want to harm Abu Mazen more than what he is facing these days and they do not want to serve Hamas in this.
