E dopo Hebron, è la volta di Gerusalemme. Alla vigilia dello Yom Kippur, la tensione è salita sulla Spianata delle Moschee, attorno alla quale – da mesi – si addensano nuvole spesse per la questione della sempre più evidente e diffusa presenza dei coloni radicali dentro la parte musulmana della Città Vecchia, e per i controversi scavi archeologici alla cosiddetta Città di David e nell’area più vicina al Muro Occidentale e ad Al Aqsa e alla Cupola della Roccia.
Gli scontri di ieri sulla Spianata sono cominciati quando una quindicina di persone di religione ebraica sono salite sul compound, accompagnate da un forte apparato di sicurezza israeliano. Una visita che faceva seguito alla notizia che i coloni radicali avrebbero cercato di salire sulla Spianata.
At least 40 people were injured and five arrested as fierce clashes broke out near the Old City-area mosque on Sunday after a group of right-wing Israelis reportedly entered the compound under police watch. The PA called on world media to expose “the ugly face of the Israeli occupation that does not hold any value to the sanctities of Islam and Christianity [or] freedom of worship.”Palestinians were hurt by police batons and high-velocity tear-gas canisters, including several who sustained serious eye and head injuries. Some 17 police were also wounded during the clashes, mostly from rocks.

In a statement, Dahlan said he considered “the violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa playing with fire and crossing red lines.” He said Israeli authorities permitted groups to enter the area to “attack worshipers inside.”Palestinians would not stand idly by, he warned, holding the Israeli government responsible for repercussions of what he called a dangerous attack that was carried out by “extremist groups in East Jerusalem.”Dahlan called on all Palestinian factions to forget their own internal problems and stand as one in the face of the “Judaization” of Jerusalem and the Palestinian cause. He stressed the need to respond to such threats via national unity and an end to factional division.
